Meghan is a native northern California lyric soprano who has been singing since the age of 2 and has been performing professionally for over 25 years.
She has received her Master of Music degree in voice performance from The Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and her Bachelor's in voice performance from Azusa Pacific University's School of Music. |
6Miss McGovern made her European debut, in 2014, starring in the title role of Janacek's The Cunning Little Vixen at the Trentino Music Festival in northern Italy. Other recent performances in Chicago include Madama Cortese in Il Viaggio A Reims and Lucia in the Hindemith's The Long Christmas Dinner.
Previously, she has performed the roles of Desdemona in Otello, Erst Dame in Die Zauberflote, Frasquita in Carmen, and Vitelia in La Clemenza Di Tito. Meghan has worked with many accredited directors, conductors and coaches including the Metropolitan Opera director Yefim Maizel, MET conductor David Jackson, SF Opera coach and prompter Jonathan Khuner and former principal conductor of the Munich National Theater and Hamburg State Opera, Matthias Kuntzsch. While in northern Italy she had the distinct honor of performing for and working with celebrated opera diva, Renata Scotto.
She has worked with many companies locally such as Livermore Valley Opera, West Edge Opera, Festival Opera and Golden Gate Opera. Meghan has also performed in numerous productions including La Traviata, Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, Romeo et Juliet and the premier of the new American opera, Lincoln and Booth.
Meghan has been a winner of the San Ramon Valley Business/Education Roundtable Student Recognition Award for Vocal Performance, The Mayflower Choral Society Scholarship Award in 2010 and 2011, California State Talent Competition Double Grand Champion Award 3 times over and an Honorable Mention in the 2007 Azusa Pacific University School of Music Concerto Competition. Aside from her opera career, she enjoys using her talents by singing the National Anthem at various sporting events including the Oakland A’s, SF Giants, Golden State Warriors, LA Dodgers and the Bay City Bombers.
She enjoys teaching privately and exercising her directorial skills for musical theatre productions, workshops and masterclasses. In 2016, she received a National Youth Arts Award for "Best Music Direction" for a youth production of Mary Poppins.
Meghan has been teaching for over 16 years in the Bay Area and beyond.
